BACOLOD City – It was like a repeat of the United Negros Alliance’s announcement of the candidacy of Binalbagan Mayor Alejandro Mirasol for the special elections in the 5th District.

Mirasol filed his certificate of candidacy yesterday at the provincial Comelec office backed by Governor Alfredo Marañon Jr. and four mayors of the district, vice mayors, councilors and barangay captains of Binalbagan town.

Marañon said he is confident Mirasol will win the post vacated by the departed Congressman Iggy T. Arroyo.

“I am 101 percent sure,” Marañon told reporters here, predicting that Mirasol will register a minimum of 5,000 votes margin over his nephew, provincial board member Dino Yulo.

Atty. Jessie Suarez, provincial Comelec supervisor, said Mirasol filed his CoC at exactly 4pm accompanied by his wife, Mary Ann nee Torre and close family friends and relatives.

Aside from Marañon, other UNA members who accompanied Mirasol were La Castellana Mayor Alberto Nicor, Hinigaran Mayor Hermilo Aguilar and Isabela Mayor Francis Malabor as well as provincial board member Dr. Melvin Ibanez.

When asked for his message to his nephew, Mirasol said “May the best man win.”

MY PARENTS gave me the name “Henry” after watching the movie “King Henry V,” Laurence Olivier’s film adaptation of William Shakespeare’s play.  But since the name was too short, so my mother suggested of adding the name, “Lito” (which means “little” in Spanish).  That’s why I am the only person in the world with the name “Henrylito” as it is a combination of English and Spanish names.
