ILOILO governor Arthur Defensor Sr. downplayed reports that there is a split of political alliance with Iloilo Fourth District Rep. Ferjenel “Ferj” Biron.
But Defensor could not directly react to reports that Biron may soon announce his candidacy for governor, disclosing that he and Biron were together Sunday and Monday night.
“That is very interesting. Let’s just wait for his announcement,” Defensor added.
Last March, Defensor announced he is seeking reelection for the May 2013 midterm elections and emphasized that his alliance with Biron, who is now on his third and final term as representative of the province’s fourth district, is still strong.
Defensor said he has no qualms in seeking reelection as he is confident that he has the support of majority of mayors in all districts except the Fifth District, which is the political bailiwick of the Tupas clan led by former Iloilo Gov. Niel Tupas Sr.
Defensor also added that he is not preparing for a political clash with Biron and can only count on the trust and confidence not only of the province’s political leaders but also of the people.
