BARELY three weeks after four persons died in a shootout at Brgy. Tacas, Jaro, Iloilo City last May 12, another man was killed there in a shooting incident Thursday afternoon that may have stemmed from a love triangle.

Victim Melvin Alquizar, 28, a native of Buenavista, Guimaras, died of a single gunshot wound in the abdomen at the West Visayas State University Medical Center.

Alquizar allegedly got shot when he barged inside the house of Ryan Martirizar who was sleeping with his live-in-partner Inday (not her real name) who happened to be a former lover of the victim.

Inday said Alquizar kicked Martirizar which led to a scuffle between the two men. The victim managed to run away from Martirizar’s rented house until a gunshot was heard near the house of the Jucaban family.

Residents later found the bloodied Alquizar on the ground and rushed him to the hospital onboard a police patrol car.

Inday said Alquizar consistently stalked her after she severed their three-year relationship.

The woman said she saw something bulge in Alquizar’s waist but she could not ascertain if it was a gun.

The Jaro police have invited Martirizar for investigation after he and Inday denied shooting the victim.

The name Pavlov may make us want to cry "Dogs!" We would call this a Pavlovian response, but that would be oversimplifying the point made by the phrase's namesake, the Russian physiologist Ivan Pavlov (1849-1936), stressed Dr. Michael Macrone, author of Eureka! Read more...

“THERE is a lot that happens around the world we cannot control,” American Congressman Jan Schakowsky once said. “We cannot stop earthquakes, we cannot prevent droughts, and we cannot prevent all conflict, but when we know where the hungry, the homeless and the sick exist, then we can help.”

This statement came to mind while reading the report that there more Filipinos who are hungry than ever. Read more...

WITHOUT WATER there is no life. Clean drinking water and sanitation are basic human rights – essential to life and to all other rights. Lack of access to clean water and sanitation is a silent crisis that destroys livelihoods and claims more lives through illness than any war claims through guns. Read more...
