SM City Iloilo will celebrate Earth Day today, April 20, 2012 at the front elevated parking near Starbucks.
Series of events are lined-up to emphasize the importance of the event and to create awareness to the community the importance of coming up with measures to mitigate the effects of climate change.
The day will start with the Iloilo River Clean up drive at 6am. Employees, maintenance and security personnel will join the activity in cleaning the Dungon Creek.
Starting 8am on the same day, a special Trash to Cash Recycling Market will be set-up at the front elevated parking program area to highlight the importance of recycling materials and its benefits to the environment.
The formal Earth Day program will start 8am in the venue. The said activity will be attended by guests headed by DENR-EMB VI Regional Director Atty. Jonathan Bullos, Congressman Jerry P. Treñas and Councilor David Jamora as chair for the environment committee in the Iloilo City Council.
3pm on the same day, Senior Citizens will also show their commitment to the environment by attending the Trash to Crafts activity to be facilitated by the Iloilo Solid Waste Management Board. The latter will conduct an activity for the senior citizens wherein they will teach them how to turn recyclable material into accessories and other things that can be of use. The activity also forms part of the Seniors Day in the Mall conducted by SM City Iloilo for senior citizens, by the SM Cares Committee on Senior Citizens Affairs.
Meanwhile, entries of the Earth Hour photo contest conducted lately is located at the lower ground floor from April 17-22, 2012 while an exhibit of nicely made bags and other accessories made out of trash and recyclable materials is located at the Foodcourt Hallway from April 20-22, 2012. The items will be for sale.
