FORMER world heavyweight champion "Iron" Mike Tyson warned rapper 50 Cent about the "ins and outs of boxing" as he enters the sport through his new promotional company, The Money Team (TMT) Promotions.
50 Cent, whose real name is Curtis Jackson, formed TMT Promotions with his best friend, unbeaten American boxer Floyd Mayweather Jr., with the goal of "changing the landscape of boxing."
In a Boxing Scene report, Tyson was quoted saying he wishes 50 Cent "the best of luck in the world with the endeavor that he's doing."
But he also issued a warning to the rapper-turned-promoter.
"You have to know this about boxing. It's the only business in the world, the only legalized business, where everything is not always on top of the table," Tyson said. "It should be taken over by the government."
"50 is a rap star, 50 is an entertainer, 50 is an entrepreneur. But he doesn't really know the ins and outs of boxing," he added.
Tyson said that most likely, all 50 Cent knows about boxing is what has been relayed to him by Mayweather.
"Once he gets in this arena, everyone that was ever his friend on the other is his enemy," Tyson warned. "Their job is to decimate him financially and get him out of business."
50 Cent got his promotional license for New York last July and is working on his promotional license for Nevada.
TMT Promotions has already signed boxers like unbeaten featherweight Yuri Gamboa of Cuba and Asutralian Billy Dib. They are also reportedly working with former champion Zab Judah.
Peddling in the flesh
Tyson further warned 50 Cent that boxing is unlike other businesses in that it deals with human beings.
"We call it peddling in the flesh. Even though you’re paying them, you’re still dealing in the flesh," Tyson said.
Tyson reminded 50 Cent that life is "very short and unpredictable, but it is more unpredictable than it is short."
"You have to understand that when you're dealing with human beings, you’re dealing with the probability of anything happening," he said. (ABS-CBNnews.com)
