THIS GIRL HAS TURNED INTO A WOMAN

Photos by: J & R Family Digital Studio

DAHLINGS, a grand debut party is often celebrated during a girl’s 18th milestone.

And consistent with our Filipino tradition, super achiever Maria Caryle Chua did just that, celebrating in a grand fashion her 18th birthday recently. She was introduced to society by her ever supportive parents, ace lensman James and Dolly Chua.

The debut bash was excellently supervised by the debutante’s mom who saw to it that everything went perfectly well, from the eye-catching heavenly Swan Lake-themed stage which featured a spectacular ballet dance number led by the debutante herself and her friends. Also unforgettable was the eye-catching floral arrangements of pink roses, fuchsia celosias, light pink carnations and green hydrangeas which set the tone of the evening.

And surely so, similarly remarkable were the to-die-for dinner menu and desserts and the short speeches by family members, the celebrator’s close pals and classmates, who came in full force at the Cosmo Iloilo’s upscale Cap Auditorium.

The party started off with cocktails while the appointed DJ played chill music.

A Powerpoint presentation made by the debutante’s mother showed memorable moments in Caryle’s exciting growing-up life, dahlings.

In the end, James Chua gave a toast to her lovely daughter and started the traditional father and daughter dance as the younger sets dashed to the dance floor for a night of more dancing, dahlings!

To dear, Caryle, may your dreams of happiness and good health and success come true!

The biggest loser

May 25,2013 12:46 AM

By: Artchil B. Fernandez

WHO IS the biggest loser in the last election? It appears the result of the election is a dangerous omen for Vice President Jejomar Binay. Many reputable analysts were saying the Vice President had a cold sweat when election returns trickled in and most likely the feeling turned worst when the outcome was concluded. A good lesson in life can be learned from this. Read more...

HOLY TRINITY SUNDAY

Gospel Reading: John 16,12-15

TO SPEAK of the Most Holy Trinity may come to some as something reserved only to priests, religious men and women, and students of Theology. It is popularly seen as something totally out of this world or completely detached from the realities of the present life. Read more...

The marginalization of Filipinos in our conflict with Taiwan

By: Efren N. Padilla

IN THE aftermath of the fatal shooting of a 65-year old Taiwanese fisherman allegedly poaching in Philippine waters with his boat crew, our overseas Filipino workers (OFWs) in Taiwan have borne the brunt of the backlash. Our OFWs have been threatened from being fired at work and deported.  Lately, they have been warned to stay home and not to venture outside for their safety from local reprisals. Read more...

Perennial irony

NATY “MORALES” never heard or read about the Marcoses, Estradas, Binays and Ampatuans wresting election victory. She is a 53-year-old beggar, who looks a haggard 80. What matters is even leftover food, she shrugs. Read more...

Matter of flowers

May 25,2013 12:38 AM

By: Modesto Sa-onoy

This month is considered in the Philippines as the month of flowers. We do have Flores de Mayo which I partly wrote about last Monday in relation to the annual tradition of the Santacruzan.

I was struck by a quotation from Kuszuko Ukahora which was cited in the main frame during the photo exhibits by the Digital Photography and Imaging Society which opened at Robinson’s Place last Monday as well. Read more...
