IF THE Liberal Party takes former governor Niel Tupas Sr. as its gubernatorial bet in Iloilo province, what will incumbent Governor Art Defensor Sr. do? Will he still run for governor?

Since it is clear that the LP is giving Senator Franklin Drilon the authority to decide for the party as far as Iloilo’s politics is concerned, Tupas has a clear advantage over Defensor.

The Garins in the 1st District have already announced that whoever gets the LP trophy will get their support. Ergo, if Tupas is the anointed one, the Garins will coddle Tupas by their side.

With the Garins supporting Tupas, will Governor Defensor still pursue his reelection bid?

Meanwhile, in the event that Tupas gets LP’s backing, what will Art’s carnal friend, Cad G., will do?

Cad G. is also a friend of Drilon and an avowed LP man. Will Cad G. abandon Art and follow his ambition with Drilon and Tupas?

11 digits

THE P13,000,000,000 Jalaur River Project must be the reason why it is important for some octogenarians to cling on to their last political breath.

The 11 digits must also be the reason why the big man doesn’t want a governor he cannot completely and totally control.

Remember the multi-billion new Iloilo international airport which became controversial during the Tupas administration?

Rain maker

CALINOG mayor Alex Centena will support whoever is anointed as LP gubernatorial bet. If Defensor is the one, then he will go for Defensor. But if Tupas gets the LP plum, he will root for Tupas. That is without prejudice for his “pledge of love” for Dr. Ferj Biron.

Why?

Because the Jalaur River Project is rain maker.

Flores and Torres

THE Garins did strike a compromise deal with retired police general and now board member Gerardo Flores and Tigbauan mayor Excel Torres in the last elections. But why are Flores and Torres breathing down the necks of the Garins again? Insiders say Excel is decided to run for the 1st District congressional seat which will be left vacant by Leyte native Janet Loreto, Richard’s wife. “Natuntohan si Excel kag si Gerry sang nagligad. Te nadudla na sila,” said Ippy.

Alvarez clan in limbo

WILL Negros Occidental Vice Governor Lim-ao Alvarez insist with his gubernatorial dream while his son, Ilog mayor Paul, faces murder charges with the Department of Justice filed by NBI? It appears that the case is “strong” given the confessions of three arrested suspects, one of them is the alleged triggerman who the pumped bullets that killed RTC judge Henry Arles.

A LITTLE girl and her father were crossing a bridge. The father was kind of scared so he asked his little daughter: “Sweetheart, please hold my hand so that you don’t fall into the river.”

The little girl said: “No, Dad. You hold my hand.”  The puzzled father asked, “What’s the difference?” Read more...

THAT’S obvious, but since we always take it for granted and often forget our duties and responsibilities toward it, we need to be reminded, if only to achieve more appreciation, both theoretical and practical, for it.

Truthfulness is relational since it always involves the proper engagement between us and the others, be they persons, things, Read more...

LAST Saturday I looked at the exhibit on the life of Blessed Mother Teresa of Calcutta at the west portico of the San Sebastian Cathedral. The Sisters of Charity, founded by Mother Teresa shared with us her life and her thoughts on her mission for the poor, the very poor of India and from there the poor of the world.

It was a moving exhibit, with photographs of her journey from being a young girl in Kosovo to the world’s stage and into holiness. Read more...

I REMEMBER the complaint of a widowed senior citizen, or older adult as known in other countries, some time last year.

She had just arrived from the United States when we met. She told me that she had been living for quite some time in a home for the aged in that country of Uncle Sam, which she deeply disliked. Read more...
