BORACAY ISLAND – The Boracay Foundation Inc. (BFI) urged the national government to diplomatically end its conflict with China over Scarborough Shoal as soon as possible.
Dionisio Salme, BFI president, said the tourism industry here has been affected since Chinese tourists cancelled their room reservations recently.
"We in the BFI have a standing invitation from the China Tourism Organization for a travel exposition in China this September. We wish to go there and promote Boracay as a premier tourism destination in the country," said Salme.
The BFI said Chinese tourists comprise 12 percent of the overall foreign tourists coming to this resort island.
"We consider Chinese tourists important both to our tourism and our economy," he said.
The BFI is one of the major business groups in Boracay. (PNA)
