For someone who doesn't tweet much, former President and now Pampanga Rep. Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo has breached the 1,000 mark on number of followers of her Twitter account.

The milestone was bared Tuesday afternoon by her son, Camarines Sur Rep. Diosdado Arroyo, in a post on his own Twitter account.

"Wow, @gmarroyo already has 1K+ followers. Hi Mom! I'm on twitter too! Pa-follow naman po! :)," the younger Arroyo tweeted.

As of 5:20 p.m. Tuesday, Mrs. Arroyo's Twitter account (https://twitter.com/gmarroyo) had 1,040 followers. She had posted only 39 tweets, and is following 21 other Twitter accounts.

The former leader's last tweets were on September 8, when she thanked individual tweeps who wished her a speedy recovery.

Her first tweet was last July. The account indicated her staff is maintaining the account.

In contrast, the younger Arroyo has posted 562 tweets and is following 196 other accounts - but has only 706 followers.

Mrs. Arroyo is now seeking treatment for an anatomical problem that once caused her to choke on her food. She was allowed to post bail earlier this year, ending eight months of hospital arrest.

Despite her 1,000-follower milestone, Arroyo has few followers compared to her immediate predecessor and successor.

By comparison, her predecessor Joseph Estrada has 24,019 followers and has posted 978 tweets.

Her successor, incumbent President Benigno Aquino III, has 1,103,382 followers and has so far posted 1,150 tweets. — LBG, GMA News
