You may want to think twice before donating infant formula and powdered milk to victims of flooding and heavy rain, the Department of Health said Wednesday.

"Donations of infant formula and powdered milk products are risky due to contaminated water. Breastfeeding is still the best," said the DOH in a post on its Twitter account.

On Tuesday, the DOH advised residents in areas affected by floods to make sure their drinking water is not contaminated.

DOH Secretary Enrique Ona said that water must be purified to ensure that it is clean and fit for human consumption. The DOH statement on the official government site provides guidelines on purifying the water before use.

He also advised local governments and relief missions to make sure containers used in rationing water are clean. - BM, GMA News
