A day after meeting with representatives of the Dallas Mavericks and the Brooklyn Nets, free agent point guard Deron Williams has made his decision, opting to stay with the newly-relocated Nets franchise as their marquee player.

Williams tweeted on his personal account, "Made a very tough decision today," and then posted a picture of the Brooklyn Nets logo.
Yahoo Sports' Adrian Wojnarowski and Ken Berter of NBA on CBS later confirmed Williams' choice, saying that the All-Star would sign a five-year extension worth approximately $100 million.
Williams was originally acquired by the then-New Jersey Nets during the 2010-11 season in a trade with the Utah Jazz for Devin Harris, Derrick Favors, two first round draft picks and $3 million.

This past off-season, Williams declined a $17.8 million dollar player option to become a free agent. The Nets then made several moves to try to sway the point guard into staying, including re-signing forward Gerald Wallace, and trading for swingman Joe Johnson.

Williams, drafted third overall in the 2005, has career averages of 17.6 points, 3.3 rebounds, 9.2 assists and 1.1 steals.

Players cannot sign deals until the moratorium on new contracts is lifted on July 11 (July 12, PHL time), but the two parties have a verbal agreement in place. - AMD, GMA News
