The Mark V. Pinggol (MVP) Taekwondo Gym has started preparing for the Western Visayas Regional Athletic Association (WVRAA) Meet 2017 in Antique in February.

After ruling the recent Integrated Meet 2016 in Iloilo, the team is now raring for the regional meet by undergoing rigid daily trainings.

Bannering the squad are Angela Joy Marie Bermejo (Assumption Iloilo), Cheri Nicole Latade (Iloilo Central Elementary School), Niesha Kariz Pequierda (Ateneo de Iloilo), Raphael Lloyd Pico (Saint Robert's International Academy), Chryss Dinero (Central Philippine University),Rannie Rose Dedoroy (SRIA), and Czarylle Faye Dinero (CPU).

Aside from the WVRAA, the team is also preparing for the Western Visayas Private Schools Athletic Association (WVPRISAA) with Jim Marshall Simpas (CPU) and Ian Gabriel Alcarde (CPU) for tertiary and Roices Dane Decafe (Assumption Iloilo), Rannie Rose Dedoroy (SRIA) and Kyna Zurielle Gemarino (SRIA) for secondary battling it out for the right to earn the spot in the Palarong Pambansa 2017 in Antique also this summer.

The event, which kicks off Feb. 3-11, will be also hosted by Antique.

Coach Denmark Pinggol said the team trains every afternoon after class and on weekends.

"Regarding our preparation, we started early just after the Iloilo Schools Sports Council (ISSC) Meet. We don't have the chance to rest during the holidays since we're also prioritizing their academics. Naga double time lang kami during our training para  masulit namun ang short nga training schedules namun sa gym," Pinggol said.

Meanwhile, neophyte jin Angela Bermejo said she's excited to play in the regional meet as she hopes to win gold medal and get a chance to play in Palaro.

The 12-year-old pride of Assumption Iloilo also shared that part of her preparations include healthy eating, exercises and daily endurance training.

 

"I'm very particular with my diet and medications. My parents are making it sure that I'm ready before the competition," she added.
